Endsleigh Cottage, English country house in Milton Abbot, England.
Endsleigh Cottage is an English country house in Milton Abbot with Grade I listed status, located on the eastern bank of the River Tamar. The main building combines traditional architecture with expansive grounds and several smaller structures including grottos and pavilions.
The country house was commissioned by the 6th Duke of Bedford between 1810 and 1816, with architect Sir Jeffry Wyatville leading the design. It emerged during a period when wealthy English nobles were transforming their estates.
The scattered buildings such as the Shell Grotto and Swiss Cottage show what wealthy families valued in early 19th-century design. Visitors can still observe how country estates served as places for leisure and wonder.
The property now operates as a hotel offering modern comforts such as WiFi, heating, and parking. Visitors should wear proper footwear since the gardens feature numerous paths for exploration.
The grounds were designed by Humphry Repton, a celebrated landscape designer, and spread across 300 acres of plantations. The variety of hidden buildings and crafted landscape features turns each walk into a small discovery.
