Elphinstone Place, Unfinished skyscraper in Glasgow, United Kingdom.
Elphinstone Place is a 39-floor skyscraper standing 134 meters tall on the western end of St Vincent Street near the M8 in central Glasgow. The building holds office space and was completed as a corporate headquarters for a major energy company.
The project began in 2004 but was interrupted in 2008 when the financial crisis shook the banking sector. Work resumed later and the building was eventually completed in 2017.
The place takes its name from a historical Glasgow figure and serves today as an office building that reflects the city's modern needs. Workers and visitors share a space where contemporary business meets the city's evolving identity.
The building is visible from outside and easy to spot from the M8 or St Vincent Street as it rises above surrounding structures. Keep in mind it is a private office complex and access may be limited.
The site was originally prepared for an even taller building that would have been Scotland's highest structure. The interruption of the project meant those ambitious plans were never fully realized.
