Full Sutton Circuit, Racing circuit at RAF Full Sutton, Yorkshire, England.
Full Sutton Circuit was a racing track built on the grounds of the former RAF airfield in Yorkshire, using existing runways and perimeter roads as the course. The layout stretched about 3 miles in total and was the longest racing circuit in Britain at the time.
The British Racing and Sports Car Club gained permission from the Air Ministry in 1958 to organize racing events at the former RAF station. This marked the beginning of a brief period when the airfield served the motorsport community with several competitions held there.
The circuit marked a milestone in British motorsport when Jim Clark set a record by driving a Jaguar D-type at speeds exceeding 100 mph on an airfield track.
The site was straightforward to access as it was located on an existing airfield with infrastructure already in place to receive visitors. Different parts of the circuit could be modified to create various race configurations for different vehicle classes.
The inaugural race meeting in April 1958 took place under unusual snow conditions that covered the track and created challenging circumstances. Despite these difficult conditions, driver Jim Clark managed to navigate the course and demonstrate impressive performance on the slippery surface.
