Featherstone Castle

Featherstone Castle is a fortified structure in Northumberland with four corner towers and a central courtyard built on medieval foundations. The stone walls and slate roofing define its layout, situated along the River South Tyne and operating today as a residential conference center.

The original hall house from the 13th century underwent major changes, particularly with the addition of a three-story tower in 1330. These expansions show how the place adapted to meet the needs of its time.

Archaeological work uncovered five ancient wooden coffins from the Early Medieval period containing human remains. These finds suggest the place held significance for people long before its stone structures were built.
