Exeter School, Independent school in Exeter, England
Exeter School is an independent educational institution on Victoria Park Road in the southwest of England, occupying a campus with multiple teaching buildings, sports facilities, and open playing fields. The site includes a main school building, an indoor sports hall, a fitness area, and outdoor spaces used for athletics and recreation.
The school was established in 1633 as a grammar school for local boys and moved to its present location in 1878, when architect William Butterfield designed the main buildings in Victorian Gothic style. Over the 20th century, the campus expanded with additional facilities for sports and teaching.
Students engage in various artistic pursuits through the art department, which recognizes exceptional work with the Artist of the Moment designation.
The campus is located in a residential area west of the city center and can be reached on foot or by bicycle from surrounding neighborhoods. Facilities are spread across the grounds, with sports areas positioned toward the rear of the site.
The Victorian brick buildings designed by Butterfield feature pointed gables and decorative window frames that reflect the Gothic Revival style popular in the late 19th century. These architectural details remain visible in the older parts of the campus and distinguish them from later additions.
