Eye Manor

Eye Manor is a two-story red brick house built in the eighteenth century with cellars beneath ground, attic spaces above, and a classical Doric porch at its entrance near Leominster. The building combines sturdy exterior stonework with elaborate interior spaces featuring decorated ceilings and intricate wall treatments.

The house was built in 1680 for Ferdinando Gorges, whose father had played a crucial role in establishing the Province of Maine in North America. This colonial connection reflects the family's prominence and prosperity during that era.

The interior displays richly decorated wall panels and fireplaces with molded borders that showcase the same level of craftsmanship as work found at Holyrood Palace. These design features convey a sense of elevated living and skilled artistry from the era when the house was built.
