Gatcombe Court

Gatcombe Court is a two-story manor house featuring steep gables and traditional tiled roofs in Long Ashton. The building contains period features throughout its rooms and sits within grounds that have been modified and developed over centuries.

The site shows evidence of Roman occupation in ancient times, with archaeological work uncovering artifacts from that period. The manor house itself grew into importance during the medieval and later periods as a significant residential building.

The property maintains its medieval architectural elements while incorporating a 400-year-old yew hedge and a Roman herb garden within its grounds.

Visitors can only view the property from outside, as the building maintains protected status and is not open to the public. The location within Long Ashton village allows for easy access when exploring the area on foot.

A former snuff mill from 1769 stands near the manor, with its original machinery still preserved inside. The building later became a residence and represents an interesting chapter of local industrial activity.
