Gnoll Estate Country Park

Gnoll Estate Country Park is a historic landscape park in Neath with extensive green spaces, old woodlands, and several bodies of water including ponds and artificial cascades. The estate also includes remnants of old buildings, including a former ice house and a tower, that document the site's earlier use.

The estate was founded in the 16th century when Queen Elizabeth I granted it to the Earls of Pembroke, before it passed to the Mackworth family in 1686. This family shaped its development as a significant aristocratic seat in Wales over the following centuries.

The name comes from a Welsh word referring to the old ruling structure of the region. Visitors can still explore the remnants of buildings that show how landowners once lived and managed their estates.

The site is open daily and offers ample parking along with well-maintained paths suitable for different fitness levels. Visitors should bring weather-appropriate clothing and be aware that woodland trails can become slippery, especially after rain.

An ancient oak tree with a natural hollow has served as a play area since the 1950s and is now the finish line for weekly park runs. This unusual natural landmark has become a special gathering spot that many visitors overlook.
