Friendville, Manor house in Great Western Road, Aberdeen, Scotland
Friendville is a Georgian manor house on Great Western Road with two storeys, an attic, and a five-window facade built from coursed rubble stone with a pantiled roof. The listed building sits on approximately two acres and functions today as a venue for private events.
The house was built in 1773 for Robert Balmanno in an area then called Balmanno's Field. Arthur Dingwall Fordyce purchased the property in 1798, shaping its subsequent development.
The gardens showcase Victorian-style planning with distinct sections and period features such as an 18th-century sundial. These planted areas create a country estate character in an urban setting.
The property is located on Great Western Road and is available for private events through Oakhill Apartments management. Visitors should arrange access in advance, as the house operates exclusively as an event venue.
The grounds retain garden features including a doric-style tempietta with wrought iron dome, typical of country estates. Such features are uncommon within Aberdeen's city bounds and give the property a rural character unusual for its urban location.
