Hare Hill, Country house in Over Alderley, England
Hare Hill is a Georgian country house in Over Alderley featuring red brick walls and roofs made from Welsh slate. The two-storey building has an east-facing front with three distinct bays set across its width.
William Hibbert of Birtles Hall commissioned this house around 1800. It underwent later extensions and alterations, particularly when the Brocklehurst family became associated with the property.
The house displays architectural details from the Georgian period, with a verandah featuring cast iron supports in a Chinese style that reflects the tastes of wealthy families of that time. These decorative elements show how fashionable Eastern influences were among the English gentry.
As a listed building, any changes to its structure need approval to maintain its historical character. The wooded grounds offer walking paths where visitors can explore the gardens at their own pace.
The garden contains more than 70 varieties of rhododendron scattered through wooded areas, creating a colorful display that changes with the seasons. A walled section with a pergola and wire sculptures adds an artistic touch to this botanical collection.
