Griffithstown Railway Museum, Railway museum in Griffithstown, Wales.
Griffithstown Railway Museum was a railway museum housed in a restored Great Western Railway goods shed built in 1879. The collection displayed railway equipment and transportation machinery specific to the South Wales region.
The museum occupied a site of labor significance, as it stood near where ASLEF, the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen, was founded in 1880. This union organization became central to South Wales railway worker history and the broader industrial movement of the region.
Through educational programs and community events, the museum preserved the industrial heritage of South Wales until its closure in 2011.
The site benefited from improved parking and landscaping upgrades to accommodate visitors more comfortably. Access to the grounds was straightforward, and the facilities were arranged to allow for easy viewing before the building transitioned to other uses.
A pneumatic forging hammer occupied the museum entrance and was often mistaken for a steam-powered machine by visitors. Incorrect labeling on the equipment's identification plaque contributed to this persistent misunderstanding among those passing through.
