Holman's Bridge, Brick bridge in Aylesbury, England
Holman's Bridge is a brick structure that crosses the River Thame on the A413 road, serving as a key connection between northern Aylesbury and the surrounding region. The bridge provides essential passage for traffic over the waterway and supports local transportation routes.
The bridge marked the northern boundary of Aylesbury when the town received its first Charter of Incorporation in 1554. This location made it a strategic point during the armed conflicts of the 1600s.
Archaeological discoveries near the bridge in 1818 revealed remains of 247 individuals, linking the site to military engagements during the English Civil War.
A wooden pedestrian bridge was added in 2006 to improve access between the main road and nearby residential areas. This addition makes walking safer and offers an alternative route to regular traffic.
Metal detector surveys uncovered roughly two dozen lead bullets and powder-box caps near the structure. These artifacts show traces of combat that took place in this area during the 1600s.
