Hambleden Mill

Hambleden Mill is a Grade II listed building situated on the River Thames in Hambleden, distinguished by its white wooden boarding and numerous windows. The structure occupies a prominent position next to the lock and adjacent marina, forming a distinctive feature of this stretch of the river.

The Domesday Book of 1086 records this mill under Queen Matilda's ownership, documenting its significant annual value and fish production. The operation remained an active production site along the Thames for many centuries afterward.

The mill represents the industrial heritage of Thames Valley, demonstrating the traditional methods of grain processing and water power utilization in England.

A footbridge from the lock provides direct access to the building, with parking available at the nearby marina facilities. The location is easily reached by walking along the riverside path and offers convenient vantage points for viewing.

Flour produced here was transported by barge to the Huntley & Palmers biscuit factory in Reading, which regularly returned broken biscuits for local distribution. This arrangement illustrates how river transport connected small mills to larger manufacturing operations in Victorian times.
