Highgrove House

Highgrove House, Country house in Eastcote, London Borough of Hillingdon, England

Highgrove House is a two-story country residence built with red brick and arranged in an L-shaped layout that blends Queen Anne and Early Georgian architectural styles. The building features tall sash windows, period details from the 1750s, and stands within landscaped grounds accessed by a separate drive.

The house was originally built in 1750 by Reverend John Lidgould, but a major fire destroyed it in 1879 and architect Edward Schroeder Prior reconstructed it in 1881. This rebuilding period marked a significant shift in the property's use and character.

The house takes its name from its elevated position in the landscape and served families in need of housing assistance for many decades. Its role as a community facility gave it social importance beyond its architectural value to the neighborhood.

The house is located in a quiet residential area of Eastcote and is accessible by public transportation. Visitors should note that this is a private property with restricted access, so it is advisable to check ahead for any viewing opportunities.

Jenny Churchill, mother of Winston Churchill, was connected to this house where her son spent his honeymoon during the Warrender family era. This personal link to one of Britain's most famous families adds a notable layer to the house's story.
