Kinmel Camp, Military training camp near Abergele, Wales.

Kinmel Camp is a military training facility near Abergele in Wales, located between Engine Hill and Primrose Hill south of Bodelwyddan village. The complex contained multiple barracks, mess facilities, parade grounds, and various support buildings designed to accommodate and train large numbers of soldiers.

The camp was built in 1915 during World War I and became Wales's largest military training ground. It played a central role in preparing troop units for combat operations throughout the war.

Local communities played a role in supporting the base through nearby settlements like Tintown, where residents operated small shops to supply soldiers with daily necessities. This interaction between military personnel and townspeople shaped the social character of the area during wartime.

The site is best accessed from the Abergele area and provides views of open training grounds and various outbuildings. Visitors should be prepared for an expansive layout and wear suitable footwear when exploring the grounds.

The camp was divided into around 20 sub-camps, each equipped with separate barracks, mess halls, training grounds, and facilities like a cinema, post office, and bakery. This internal structure made it function almost as a self-contained town built specifically for wartime operations.
