Lee Abbey

Lee Abbey comprises multiple buildings arranged around three sides of a courtyard, featuring an octagonal music room and entrance tower with rendered surfaces. The complex provides accommodation, meeting spaces, and recreational areas with architectural elements from different construction phases.

The property originated in 1199 as a farmhouse owned by Cistercian monks from Forde Abbey. It transformed into a hotel in 1921 and later became a Christian community in 1946.

The place hosts spiritual retreats and personal development workshops that bring together people from many countries. Visitors can take part in group activities and discussions that focus on inner growth and community connection.

The grounds are open to visitors joining courses, workshops, or events held throughout the year. It is best to visit during organized programs when accommodation and meals are provided as part of the experience.

The music room displays a timber ribbed ceiling and decorative stone fireplace created with notable craftsmanship. The 1968 expansions earned recognition through a Civic Trust award for their architectural quality.
