Lisson Gallery, Art gallery in City of Westminster and Manhattan.
The Lisson Gallery is an art gallery with locations in Westminster, London, and in Manhattan, New York. The London building is made up of several connected exhibition rooms spread across different levels, with concrete walls and frosted glass panels facing the street.
Nicholas Logsdail opened the Lisson Gallery in 1967 in the Marylebone area of London, initially as a small local space showing experimental work. Over the following decades it grew steadily, eventually opening a second location in New York.
The gallery has long been associated with artists who work on a large scale, including sculptors whose pieces can fill an entire room. Walking through the space, visitors often find works that respond directly to the architecture of the building.
The London gallery sits in a central part of Westminster and is easy to reach on foot from nearby streets. It is worth checking ahead of your visit, as opening hours can change depending on the current exhibition.
Architect Tony Fretton redesigned the London building in 1992, arranging the separate exhibition areas so that each one has its own entrance directly from the street. This gives the building an appearance from outside that looks more like a row of distinct units than a single gallery.
