Langley Hall, Sutton Coldfield

Langley Hall, Sutton Coldfield, Medieval manor house site in Sutton Coldfield, England.

Langley Hall was a medieval manor house in Sutton Coldfield, located near Walmley. The site featured a protective moat, a pond, and fishery within its surrounding grounds, which served as the functional center of the estate.

Construction of the manor began around 1200, with the de Beresford family receiving permission to fortify it in 1327. The site remained significant until Robert Peel purchased the property in 1817 and had the original structure demolished.

The estate changed hands among noble families, including the Pudseys who backed the Parliamentary side during the English Civil War. These connections reveal how the property was tied to the major political upheavals of its era.

The original building was demolished, leaving only the drained moat visible today. Visitors can view these earthen remains scattered across the landscape, which outline where the former building once stood.

Langley Hall Farm, which once served the medieval manor with provisions and resources, still stands near the present-day private residence called Langley House. This continuation links the medieval past directly to the modern landscape.
