Llanerchaeron, Georgian villa in Ciliau Aeron, Wales.
Llanerchaeron is a Georgian country house in Welsh countryside featuring a working farm, walled gardens, parkland, and an ornamental lake spread across several acres. The main residence includes a service courtyard containing original Georgian-era buildings such as a dairy, brewery, and laundry.
Architect John Nash designed the complete estate in 1790 as a cohesive Georgian complex at the height of its stylistic period. The buildings and their original arrangements remained largely unchanged through generations, preserving a snapshot of late 18th-century country life.
The property demonstrates traditional Welsh farming practices visible today, with Welsh Black cattle, Llanwenog sheep, and heritage poultry breeds as part of daily estate life. These animals represent the agricultural character that has defined the rural community for generations.
The site is managed by the National Trust with parking areas near the visitor center and offers guided tours of the property and grounds. Plan visits during regular opening seasons and allow time to explore both the interior and the surrounding estate.
Ten generations of the Lewis family occupied the main villa, which resulted in extraordinary consistency in preservation and original features. This extended continuity allowed architectural details and structural elements to remain intact across more than two centuries.
