Langside College, Educational institution in Glasgow, United Kingdom.
Langside College is a further education campus on Prospecthill Road in South Glasgow, made up of several buildings including a category B listed main building dating from 1868. The site accommodates facilities for sport, music, and theatre spread across the grounds.
The main building was constructed in 1868 to serve as the Glasgow Deaf and Dumb Institution, a role it held for many decades. The site was repurposed in 1947 as a college, marking the start of its long chapter in further education.
The 19th-century building on Prospecthill Road is now known as Chroma House and has been converted into residential flats, though its listed facade remains visible from the street. Visitors walking past can still read the architectural language of its original institutional purpose in the stonework and windows.
The campus is a short walk from Mount Florida railway station and is also served by several bus routes along Battlefield Road and Cathcart Road. The layout across multiple buildings is straightforward to navigate once you are on site.
In 2013 the college merged with Anniesland College and Cardonald College to form Glasgow Clyde College, which means the Langside name is no longer in official use. Despite this, many local residents still refer to the site by its original name when giving directions or talking about the area.
