Menier Chocolate Factory, Former chocolate factory turned theatre in Southwark, England.
The Menier Chocolate Factory is a converted factory building in Southwark that now houses a 180-seat theatre, along with bar and office spaces. The five-story red brick industrial structure stands on Southwark Street and still clearly shows its origins as a production facility.
The building was erected between 1865 and 1874 as a chocolate factory for the French Menier company, which produced here until the 1950s. After decades of changing uses, the structure gained protected status in 1996 and reopened as a theatre in 2004.
The venue takes its name from the original chocolate manufacturer and keeps this connection alive through visible reminders throughout the building. Visitors often notice how the old industrial architecture mixes with the working theatre, giving the space its particular character.
The building lies near the London Bridge and Borough underground stations, so visitors can reach it comfortably on foot. The entrance sits directly on Southwark Street, where the bar is also accessible.
The basement area below the theatre preserves machinery and tools from the chocolate-making era, still standing in their original places. These objects remain visible and remind visitors that sweet products were once made here.
