Mayflower Steps, Historic departure point in Barbican, England.
The Mayflower Steps feature a commemorative portico with Doric columns made of Portland stone and a platform with nautical bronze artwork overlooking Plymouth Sound.
In September 1620, a group of 102 passengers departed near these steps aboard the Mayflower, marking the beginning of their journey to North America.
The steps represent a connection between England and America, with an estimated 16 million Americans tracing their ancestry to the Mayflower passengers.
Visitors can take boat excursions from the steps to explore Plymouth Sound and the River Tamar while viewing the naval dockyard.
The granite block marking the departure site includes commemorative tablets from 1891, with the current portico structure dating to 1934.
