Milbourne Hall

Milbourne Hall is a Georgian mansion in Ponteland featuring an unusual layout with an octagonal courtyard and a central rotunda at its core. The building is constructed from local stone with large sash windows and refined stonework across its facades.

The mansion was commissioned around 1810 by Ralph Bates, a local figure of influence in Northumberland, who sought to build a statement residence. The Scottish architect John Patterson designed the building, creating its distinctive character.

The mansion shows how prominent families in the region were connected through marriage and business ties that shaped local society. The rooms reflect the way these families lived and their importance within the community.
