Loton Park, Grade II* listed country estate in Alberbury with Cardeston, England
Loton Park is a substantial brick mansion with sandstone dressings, Corinthian columns, and a three-bay loggia porch arranged in a U-shaped footprint. The estate spreads across roughly 400 acres of parkland and gardens, dotted with architectural features that define its landscape.
The Leighton family has owned the estate continuously since 1391, with Sir Edward Leighton establishing the mansion here in 1712 after relocating from Wattlesborough Castle. This long ownership by a single line makes it one of the longest-held family seats in the area.
The estate bears the Leighton family name, reflecting centuries of continuous stewardship by one lineage in the region. Visitors can observe how the refined architecture and expansive grounds reveal the family's standing within English society.
The grounds are open for visitors to explore on foot through the parkland and gardens at their own pace. Visit during warmer months when the gardens are in bloom and the landscape paths are most enjoyable to walk.
The property contains one of only two private deer parks still remaining in Shropshire. It also functions as the venue for the British Hill Climb Championship, blending rural heritage with competitive motorsport.
