Middleton Park, Public park in Middleton, Leeds, UK.
Middleton Park is a large green space in the Middleton area of Leeds, featuring a fishing lake, sections of ancient woodland, and several sports facilities. A children's playground and a visitor center with a café are also on the grounds.
The land appears in records going back to the 11th century and passed through the hands of several noble families over many generations. It was gradually opened to the public during the 20th century as the city of Leeds grew around it.
The name Middleton refers to the middle settlement that once sat between larger villages in the area. Today the park draws families, dog walkers, and anglers who treat it as a natural part of their weekly routine.
The main entrance on Town Street gives straightforward access and there is parking available on site. The different areas of the park are well signed, so it is easy to find your way around even on a first visit.
Running through the park is one of the oldest commercial railways in the world, first put to use in the 18th century to carry coal from local collieries. The line still runs between two stations today and is one of the few survivors of England's early industrial period.
