Marshall Street Baths, Grade II listed swimming pool in City of Westminster, England.
Marshall Street Baths is a swimming facility housed in a building with neoclassical features, where the main pool is lined with white Sicilian marble and green Swedish marble throughout its walls. The structure opened in its current form during the interwar period and contains additional facilities including a gym, steam room, and sauna.
Public bathing facilities were first built on this site in 1850 by the local parish to serve the community's washing needs. The present building was constructed in 1931, replacing the original structures with a more substantial stone construction.
The space once served military personnel from overseas during the 1940s, creating a connection between this swimming hall and wartime experiences. Visitors today can walk through a place that held significance for people far from home.
The facility functions as a modern leisure center managed by Everyone Active, offering swimming and various wellness facilities in one location. Visitors should arrive early on busy days and note that different areas may have their own access points and hours.
A bronze fountain at the shallow end of the pool features a merchild figure holding two dolphins, created by sculptor Walter Gilbert during the 1930s. This decorative piece remains a distinctive detail that swimmers and visitors encounter.
