Morgan Academy, Secondary school in Stobswell, Dundee, Scotland
Morgan Academy is a school in Stobswell, Dundee, housed in a 19th-century building with elaborate stone features. The structure displays traceried windows and Gothic decorative details, positioned on elevated ground that overlooks the city.
The building was designed in 1862 by architects John Dick Peddie and Charles Kinnear and initially opened as a hospital. It was converted to a school in 1889 and has carried its current name since then.
The school is known locally for its three houses named after Scottish castles that compete in annual events and develop student leadership. These groups shape how students experience belonging and responsibility during their time here.
The school building underwent extensive reconstruction after a fire in 2001 and reopened in 2004. The rebuilding work preserved the original exterior facades and interior designs.
The school was founded with an inheritance from John Morgan, an indigo farmer who made his fortune in India. He left over 73,500 pounds specifically to educate boys from working-class families.
