Ogof Hen Ffynhonnau, Cave system in Alyn Gorge, North Wales.

Ogof Hen Ffynhonnau is a limestone cave system in Alyn Gorge in North Wales that extends 800 meters and descends about 146 meters below the surface. The network contains various chambers and passages of different sizes and difficulty levels for visitors to explore.

The cave system was discovered in 1978 during excavation work at Dyer's Adit and later renamed Poacher's Cave. The name change came about due to a dispute between rival caving groups competing for access to the site.

North Wales Caving Club manages access to this geological formation, which forms part of a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest.

A 4.5-meter ladder system at the entrance provides access for both beginners and experienced cavers. A typical exploration lasts about three hours, so visitors should bring sufficient time, lamps, and appropriate clothing.

The cave system lies beneath a dry river bed that floods rapidly during heavy rainfall. These flooding conditions regularly shape the cave passages and alter water flows through them.
