Peterborough transmitting station, Broadcasting tower at Morborne Hill, Peterborough, United Kingdom
The Peterborough transmitting station comprises two separate structures: a 154-meter guyed steel lattice mast and a 98-meter reinforced concrete tower located at Morborne Hill. Both structures work together to distribute television and radio signals across the surrounding area.
The original lattice mast collapsed in 2004 following a fire, causing temporary service interruptions to the region. A replacement mast was constructed in 2006 to restore full transmission capabilities.
The station broadcasts several radio services including BBC Radio 2, 3, 4, and Classic FM, connecting communities across the region through its transmission network.
The station is visible from a distance as both towers rise prominently above the surrounding landscape at Morborne Hill. Visitors can view the structures from nearby vantage points around the area, making them easy to spot as regional landmarks.
The concrete tower at the station belongs to a select group of only fourteen similar structures scattered throughout the United Kingdom. This rare construction type makes it a notable example of British broadcasting engineering heritage.
