Raphael Park, Public park in Gidea Park, Romford, England.
Raphael Park is a 44-acre green space in Gidea Park featuring a lake fed by Black's Brook, with sports fields, tennis courts, and ornamental gardens spread across the grounds. Mature trees throughout the area provide structure and shade across the entire landscape.
Sir Herbert Raphael donated this land in 1904 to Romford Urban District, with the area having once been part of the Gidea Hall Estate. This gift established the first public park in the Havering area.
The park holds a statue of Percy the Park Keeper and a bandstand built in the early 1900s where local music groups perform throughout the year. These landmarks draw visitors together, especially during warmer seasons when outdoor concerts take place.
The grounds include accessible parking, restroom facilities open from 6 AM to 6 PM, BBQ areas, and a children's playground that was updated in 2009. Visitors can explore different sections depending on whether they want to play sports, relax by the lake, or let children play.
Two ancient Pedunculate Oaks recognized by the Woodland Trust grow on the grounds near a rockery used for outdoor theatrical performances. These natural monuments connect the park to its past while serving as gathering spots for seasonal shows.
