Ritchie Camp, Military barracks in West Lothian, Scotland.
Ritchie Camp was a military facility in West Lothian near Kirknewton with multiple accommodation buildings and training areas across the Scottish countryside. The installations spread across substantial grounds with various supporting buildings and infrastructure.
The facility was built during World War II to house units stationed at RAF Kirknewton before serving United States Air Force personnel. After the war, it continued to play a role in regional defense operations for several decades.
The camp housed several respected Scottish military units, including the Black Watch and the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders battalions. These regiments shaped the region's military identity for many decades.
Visitors can trace the former layout through local records and historical photographs that show where buildings once stood. It helps to understand that the site today looks completely different from its military days.
After closure, the entire site was demolished in 1999 and replaced with a residential development called Newlands. Homes now occupy the ground where soldiers once lived and trained.
