Sherwood Observatory

Sherwood Observatory is an astronomical facility in Sutton-in-Ashfield featuring a white dome that houses a large reflecting telescope designed for sky observation. The building sits at an elevated location that provides clear views of the night sky and celestial objects.

The facility was built by members of the Mansfield and Sutton Astronomical Society and opened in 1986, using materials sourced from local demolition sites. This project demonstrates how a community effort created a functional astronomical center from reclaimed resources.
