Seaton Park, Public park in Old Aberdeen, Scotland
Seaton Park is a 27-hectare (67-acre) park along the River Don with formal flowerbeds, walled gardens, and walking paths through green spaces. The site links the University of Aberdeen campus to Hillhead Halls of Residence and contains different zones for strolling and relaxation.
The land belonged to the Hay family until 1947, when Major Malcolm Vivian Hay, a World War I cryptographer, sold it to Aberdeen City Council. This sale marked the transition from private ownership to public use.
The Cathedral Walk displays seasonal blooms and planted borders in front of St Machar's Cathedral's fortified towers. This location alongside the medieval church makes the stroll a place where religious heritage and garden cultivation meet.
The park is easily reached by bus routes 20 and 25 and features broad paths for different mobility levels. Visitors should know that the best flowers appear in spring and summer, and that paths can become slippery in rain.
The Wallace Tower, relocated from Aberdeen city center during the 1960s, stands at the southern edge next to the 13th-century Brig o' Balgownie bridge. These two structures from different eras form an interesting contrast together at the park's perimeter.
