Shaw National Distribution Centre

The Shaw National Distribution Centre is a warehouse facility in Shaw that spreads across a large site with multiple buildings used for storage and shipping operations. The site was equipped with systems to handle and process large quantities of goods for customer delivery.

The facility began operating in 1979 as a warehouse for a major retail company and made use of converted factory buildings from the region's textile manufacturing past. This conversion of older industrial structures into modern logistics shows how the local economy transformed over time.

The distribution center became the largest private employer in Oldham Borough, employing 1,250 staff members at its operational peak in 2009.

The site is very large with numerous loading and unloading areas that can be viewed from outside the facility. Visitors should be aware this is an active warehouse complex and access to certain areas may be restricted.

The buildings on the site were originally cotton mills from the Victorian era that were rebuilt for their new purpose. This reuse shows how the area transformed its craft-based past into the modern era.
