St Chad's Church, Far Headingley, Gothic Revival church in Far Headingley, England
St Chad's Church is a Gothic Revival building completed in 1868 that rises to 57 meters in height. The structure features a rectangular chancel with a Lady chapel and an organ chamber positioned on either side.
The church was designed and built in 1868 by architects Edmund Beckett Denison and W.H. Crossland under patronage from the Beckett family. This prominent Leeds family provided the land and significant financial support for the project.
The Creation window above the altar was designed by M.E. Aldrich Rope in 1922 and shows biblical scenes that catch your eye as you enter. This artwork has become an important part of how the space feels to visitors today.
The church holds regular services throughout the week, with Thursday morning communion at 10:30 followed by informal time for conversation and refreshments. Visitors can experience the space during these gatherings or contact ahead for other visiting times.
The churchyard has been thoughtfully designed to support local wildlife and nature, earning the building recognition for its environmental efforts. This commitment to ecology makes the visit memorable beyond just the architecture itself.
