St Columba's Church, London

St Columba's Church, London, Church of Scotland parish in Knightsbridge, London.

Description

St Columba's Church is a Church of Scotland parish building in Knightsbridge, standing at the corner of Pont Street with contemporary architectural features and expansive windows. The interior is shaped by abundant natural light that filters through these windows and illuminates the worship space.

History

The original church was built in 1884 but was destroyed in 1941 during the London Blitz. The rebuilding took place in 1955 under the direction of architect Sir Edward Maufe.

Culture

The congregation keeps Scottish Presbyterian traditions alive while welcoming a diverse international community in central London. Visitors can experience how this heritage shapes the way services and events unfold throughout the year.

Practical

The church is easily reached from Knightsbridge, South Kensington, and Sloane Square Underground stations. Regular services take place throughout the week, so checking times ahead helps plan a visit around worship gatherings.

Did you know?

A memorial chapel was dedicated in 1956 to honor those who died during World War II. This quiet space allows visitors to pause and connect with the site's history.
