St George's Church, Altrincham, Victorian Anglican church in Altrincham, England.
St George's Church is an Anglican place of worship built in red brick with terracotta detailing, constructed during the Victorian era. The building features a prominent west tower, a tall nave with clerestory windows for light, and a polygonal chancel attached to a vestry.
The church began in 1799 as a chapel to serve the local community and reduce pressure on the larger St Mary's Church nearby. Major changes came later with a new tower added in 1874 and significant reconstruction of the nave in 1896.
The stained glass windows in the chancel were designed by Mary Lowndes, a female artist whose work was uncommon during the Victorian period. Her designs show how women gradually contributed to the creation of religious spaces.
The church sits on Church Walk and is easy to reach by foot from the town center. Visitors can view the exterior from the street or attend services to see the interior details and stained glass properly.
A two-manual organ in the west gallery came from Bridge End Chapel in Brighouse and was installed here in 1977. This instrument connects the church to another congregation's history through its musical voice.
