St Mary's Church, Astbury, Gothic parish church in Newbold Astbury, England.
St. Mary's Church is a Gothic parish church in Newbold Astbury with a trapezoidal floor plan where the west end is wider, built from sandstone and metal materials. A separate bell tower and three-story west porch define its external appearance.
The church was founded around 1150 and underwent extensive modifications between the 14th and 16th centuries. These phases progressively integrated Early English, Decorated, and Perpendicular Gothic style elements into the building.
The Lady Chapel displays a 13th-century three-seat sedilia and piscina in geometric Gothic style, surrounded by medieval furnishings and memorials. Visitors can observe the craftsmanship of that era as they walk through the space.
The churchyard contains roughly fifty gravestones from the 17th century and five protected structures visible during a visit. The building hosts regular Anglican services for the community.
During the English Civil War, Roundhead soldiers used the building as a horse stable. This caused considerable damage to the medieval glass windows that left visible marks still seen today.
