St Mary's Church, Blymhill, Medieval parish church in Blymhill, England
St Mary's Church is a medieval sandstone parish church displaying Early English, Decorated, and Perpendicular Gothic architectural styles across its structure. The building combines elements from different periods, creating layers of design that show how it evolved over time.
The church was founded around 1350, establishing itself as the community's center from that time forward. In 1858, architect George Edmund Street undertook major restoration work, introducing new Gothic windows that modernized the building's appearance.
The church holds the memory of Rector Stephen de Bromley, whose stone coffin is housed in an arched recess on the south side of the chancel. This ancient burial shows the long connection between the community and its spiritual leaders.
The site is accessible from Church Road and serves as an active place of worship where visitors are welcome to explore. Being a Grade I listed structure, the building is carefully maintained, allowing visitors to see its architectural details clearly.
St Chad's Chapel was added in 1936 at the east end of the north aisle, marking where Saint Chad reportedly preached in the 7th century. This later addition connects the building's recent history with a much older local legend tied to the site.
