St Mary's Church, Borwick, Anglican church in Borwick, England
St Mary's Church is an Anglican place of worship built in the 1890s with thick rubble stone walls reinforced by distinctive buttresses. The interior contains Gothic-style furnishings including an ornate reredos behind the altar, an octagonal baptismal font, and a pipe organ.
The church was built between 1894 and 1896 by the respected Lancaster firm Paley, Austin and Paley as a memorial commissioned by William Sharp. It represents the architectural craftsmanship and Gothic Revival style popular during that period.
The church serves as a gathering place for surrounding communities and hosts regular social events that bring neighbors together. It remains an important spiritual and community anchor in the rural area.
The building is open for visitors and sits in a quiet rural setting that is easy to explore on foot. Services happen regularly, and the community gathers weekly for shared meals that visitors can often join.
The pipe organ originally came from a Congregational church in Warrington and was moved here in 1964. This relocated instrument brings a distinctive sound to the services held within these walls.
