St Mary's Church, Fordingbridge, Grade I listed medieval church in Fordingbridge, England
St Mary's Church is a medieval church building in Fordingbridge with a substantial 14th-century tower built from large squared stone blocks. The remaining walls incorporate rubble and flint throughout, showing the different construction phases of the structure.
The building was founded in 1150 and replaced an earlier Saxon structure on the site. During the 13th century it underwent major expansion with the addition of two aisles and a chapel.
The church holds a central place in community life and welcomes visitors seeking a quiet space for reflection and prayer. The open North Chapel draws people in daily who wish to spend time in contemplation.
The church has level access through the South Door and provides dedicated parking for people with disabilities along with an onsite restroom. Visitors should check ahead about opening times for the chapel and when services are held.
The tower has an unusual design as it sits on substantial piers within a bay of the north aisle rather than being positioned outside the building. This architectural feature sets it apart from other churches of the same medieval period.
