Teddington Lock Footbridges

Two iron footbridges span across the River Thames at Teddington Lock, connecting the small island between the watercourse and the lock structure.

The footbridges, constructed between 1887 and 1889, replaced a ferry service that operated at this location and left its mark in the name Ferry Road.

The Grade II listed footbridges represent the engineering capabilities of the Victorian era, with their stone balustrades and metal railings defining the period.

Wooden ramps installed on the bridges allow cyclists and people with strollers to cross the Thames between Teddington and Ham on the Surrey bank.

The western bridge uses suspension technology while the eastern structure employs a girder system, demonstrating two different engineering approaches at one location.
