London Borough of Richmond upon Thames

London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is an administrative district in southwest London that stretches across both banks of the River Thames and includes large parklands, residential neighborhoods, and shopping areas. This borough lies partly within Greater London and blends urban streets with wide green spaces along the river.

The borough was created in 1965 when the municipalities of Richmond, Barnes, and parts of Twickenham merged during the reorganization of Greater London. This union brought together several historic towns under a single administration and shaped the district as it exists today.

The Museum of Richmond sits inside the Old Town Hall and displays exhibits about local life through the centuries, while Richmond Theatre and Orange Tree Theatre run performances year-round. Visitors can walk along the Thames towpath and find historic pubs and small shops that have served the community for generations.

Visitors can manage municipal services such as waste collection and parking permits through the My Richmond App. The district is easy to reach in southwest London and offers many walking paths along the Thames for straightforward orientation.

Richmond Park is home to over 600 red and fallow deer that roam freely and can often be seen near the walking paths. The borough also manages more than 100 parks and around 21 miles (34 kilometers) of riverfront, making it one of the greenest districts in London.
