Stocks Mill, Post mill in Wittersham, England.
Stocks Mill is a post mill in Wittersham featuring a single-story roundhouse built on a rotating post base. The structure has four sails attached to a wooden windshaft fitted with a cast iron poll end to harness the wind.
The mill was built around 1781 and ground grain until 1900, operating for more than a century. The date remains carved into the main post and hints that the structure was relocated from Stone in Oxney to its present spot.
The Mill House next to the mill was once the parish Poorhouse, showing how central this place was to local community life.
The building underwent major restoration in 2002 with support from national heritage funding and reopened to the public in 2004. Today you can visit this protected structure, though it is worth checking opening times before your visit.
Two pairs of millstones are arranged in a head and tail layout, a traditional setup that is rarely seen today. This arrangement allowed the mill to process different grain qualities at the same time.
