The Water Tower, Coleshill

The Water Tower in Coleshill is a cylindrical industrial structure positioned on a hilltop in Buckinghamshire's rolling landscape. Its distinctive form remains visible from surrounding roads, even though the interior has been converted into residential space.

German prisoners of war built this structure during World War I to supply water by gravity to the growing town of Amersham. It served its original purpose for many decades before being converted for residential use in later years.

The structure reflects how industrial buildings can be reimagined as homes while keeping their distinctive form and character visible in the landscape.

The structure is visible from nearby main roads and can be observed from public footpaths in the surrounding area. The best views are obtained from the open countryside where you can see the entire form of the building against the landscape.

A small railway system was used during construction to transport materials across the main road. Leftover materials were deposited in a nearby abandoned kiln where traces of this earlier industrial activity remain visible.
