Thelnetham Windmill, Tower windmill in Thelnetham, England.
Thelnetham Windmill is a brick tower mill in Suffolk, England, that rises about 45 feet above the landscape. Its sails are engineered to turn with the wind and grind grain into flour.
The mill was built in 1819 by millwright George Bloomfield for local landowner William Button and ran for over a century. It ceased operations in 1924 and lay idle for many decades until restoration efforts began.
The miller held an important position in the community, and locals regularly brought their grain here for milling. You can still sense how central this place was to village life when you visit.
The site is most accessible during fair weather, especially in the warmer months when visiting is more pleasant. It is worth checking ahead for opening dates and conditions, as visitor access may be limited.
The restoration of this mill was accomplished almost entirely through volunteer effort and took nearly a decade to complete. Local people gave their time and skills to bring this historic building back to working order.
