Thetford Priory, Monastery ruins in Thetford, United Kingdom
The ruins of Thetford Priory contain walls of the church, cloister, prior's lodging, and a fourteenth-century stone gatehouse in Norfolk's countryside.
Roger Bigod established this Cluniac monastery in 1103, which operated continuously until its surrender to Henry VIII's commissioners in February 1540.
The priory functioned as the burial place for the Earls and Dukes of Norfolk throughout its four centuries of religious activity.
Visitors can explore the site daily from 8 AM to 6 PM between April and September, with reduced hours from October to March.
The monastery relocated across the River Little Ouse in 1114 due to space constraints at its original location near the abandoned cathedral.
