Trafalgar Park, Georgian country house in Downton, England
Trafalgar Park is a Grade I listed Georgian country house in Downton set within 66 acres of gardens along the River Avon. The building displays Georgian architecture with pavilions added during the 18th century.
The Crown granted this estate to Admiral William Nelson, brother of Lord Nelson, in 1814 as recognition for the naval victory at Trafalgar. The property was originally known as Standlynch Park before receiving its new name.
The main room features wood paneling from HMS Ganges, installed in 1930 to honor the Nelson family's connection to naval service. This maritime heritage shapes how visitors experience the interior today.
The house underwent major restoration in 2021 to return it to its original Georgian appearance and layout. The extensive grounds and gardens are best explored in clear weather conditions.
The estate was originally named Standlynch Park and only received the name Trafalgar Park following the Crown's gift. This renaming marked the shift when the house became tied to naval honors.
