Whitby Lighthouse, Lighthouse in Whitby, United Kingdom
The brick lighthouse rises 13 meters above Ling Hill, featuring a powerful beam that reaches 18 nautical miles across the North Sea waters.
Built in 1858 by engineer James Walker, the lighthouse originally operated with a second tower to guide ships around the treacherous Whitby Rock.
The maritime structure stands as a Grade II listed building, representing the navigation heritage of Yorkshire's eastern coastline and maritime traditions.
Following automation in 1992, the lighthouse operations are now monitored from Trinity House's Planning Centre in Harwich, maintaining maritime safety.
The former keeper's cottages next to the lighthouse remain intact and welcome visitors who want to stay overnight in this coastal location.
