Wressle Castle, Quadrangular castle in Wressle, England
The limestone castle features four ranges built around a central courtyard, with the south range remaining as the primary surviving structure today.
Thomas Percy commissioned the construction of this fortified residence in 1390, but after his rebellion against Henry IV, the crown confiscated the property.
The castle transformation from a military fortification to a high-status residence reflects the changing priorities of medieval English aristocratic architecture.
Visitors can access the castle ruins during specific open days by taking the A63 road, located five miles west of Selby.
The Department of Environment completed repairs in the 1980s, followed by an English Heritage conservation project that cleared vegetation from the moated area.
